2015 Comments about health and safety concerns:

Arcata Playcenter

  • Exposure to unvaccinated children
  • Unvaccinated kids
  • Hand sanitizer on welcome table-not effective for reducing germs
  • Unvaccinated children
  • Just let us know if a nasty bug is going around

Discovery Museum

  • General concerns about germs spreading at playgroup

FUN Playcenter

  • Maybe just the usual kids playing together and sharing lice or germs.
  • Sharing cold germs
  • The toys should be cleaned after every playgroup time

Manila

  • None, but they deserve a better vacuum so cleanup is easier.

Mattole

  • I am a dad; health and safety seem to be of less concern to me.

McKinleyville

  • Sick children and parents not putting mouth toys in wash bin
  • I do have some concern about communicable disease like running noses, but in a large community setting such things are unavoidable
  • Unvaccinated children
  • GMO's, maybe a health board announcing flu outbreaks and such so I can use more hand sanitizer. A little concerned. We do seem to bring home colds quite often. However, I think this is typical of any place children gather on a regular basis. Maybe a reminder to music today the instruments need disinfecting too
  • Child getting sick from other parents bringing their sick children to group
  • Kids have been sick after last two visits. Go to the doctor kind of sick.

Southern Humboldt

  • Immunizations

Willow Creek

  • Parents who bring sick kids

13.  In your opinion, what would improve this playgroup? (2015 comments)
Arcata

  • I appreciate and am grateful for the people who make playgroup happen
  • I've got no complaints. Sara does a great job.
  • Nature program
  • Sensory activities-sand table, water table, etc. Welcome circle time approx. 30 minutes after start time
  • I can't imagine what; we've gained so much from coming here. Things like this are what make this place such an awesome community! Thanks!
  • I think it is fine
  • At our last First 5 play group there were organized activities like story time and games like pass the bean bag. It would be nice to have activities like that
  • Bagels and donuts

  • More music time/songs/learning instruments
  • I think it's good as is
  • Nothing. Terrific set-up and such a great program for families

  • Facilitators are very welcoming and friendly and have a lot of useful information regarding local children's activities

  • More structured and longer circle time
  • Larger site, advertisement when the site is up and running. I am a grandparent who just started coming on my "grandma day!" Thank you
  • Expand the age to six. My child has autism and this group helps encourage social interactions outside of school.
  • Meeting, communicating and interacting in play with ages 0-5 helps him understand social norms and communication skills.
  • Opening circle time
  • This may be outside the scope of the playgroup, but maybe set times for parents to get together other than a playgroup. That way it would be easier to make friendships.
  • More often

FUN Playcenter

  • Nothing, we love this playgroup!

  • The snacks are lovely, the music is lovely. It has a friendly atmosphere. I can't really think of anything that would improve it.

McKinleyville

  • More tables for snacktime. Crowded when music time ends
