The 5 Protective Factors

At the First 5 Humboldt Playgroups we are guided by the wisdom of the research around the “5 Protective Factors”. The protective factors: Social Connections, Parental Resilience, Concrete Support in times of Need, Knowledge of Parenting and Child Development, and Social and Emotional Competence are five areas that communities, organizations, groups and families can support to help families be strong. Families have taken the more formal titles first used to describe the 5 factors and put them into more family-friendly words. In this article, we will use both titles and provide examples of how these factors look in our communities.
